Travelling abroad for work outside of the United Kingdom or Europe can be a very different experience to working somewhere closer to home. You may find a range of different job opportunities and new experiences. In some cases, you may also need to travel for work through work placements.
When you have established that you will be travelling abroad for work in a country outside of the UK and Europe, it is common for the country you will be travelling to to require a work visa or a work permit. Which type you will need will depend on the country’s requirements – this information can usually be found through a country’s embassy. It is always best to check well in advance since, as we will cover, applications for these visas often call for a host of supporting documents.
In most cases, visa application or work permit applications will require a set list of documents that need to be organised and submitted to the embassy or consulate of the country in question. These will include documents such as:
- Degrees or other qualifying certificates.
- A criminal record check. These are commonly issued by Disclosure Scotland, DBS, ACRO or NPCC, dependent on the nature of the work permit or the country that the visa is for.
- An employment history document or reference letter.
- A doctor’s letter or medical record demonstrating your fitness for work and your health status.
Different countries have different requirements. It is always best to check with the embassy or consulate to find out exactly what you need to prepare.
Some further documents that you may need can include:
- Passport copies.
- Birth and marriage certificates – especially if you are hoping to include family on your visa.
UK documents will usually need to be notarised and/or apostilled in order to be used abroad. Certain countries also require attestation at their embassy or consulate. In countries where English is not a working language, documents may need to be translated.
At Pardus Bloom, we understand how overwhelming this process can be. As a bespoke concierge service that specialises in apostilles and legalisation services, we aim to make your life that little bit easier. We are able to get everything completed for you, including certification/notarisation and translation (where necessary) of the documents, and taking them to the FCDO for apostilles, ensuring that all documents are prepared to the standard of the embassies where you will make your visa application. This will allow for a faster and more efficient process when it comes time to apply for a work permit or work visa.
